About

Justin Shin (he/him) is a California-based composer, arranger, orchestrator, and vocalist for games, film, and media. His music can be heard in award-winning games, recognized at festivals such as the Independent Game Festival, IndieCade, Games For Change, BAFTAs and more.

A reflection of his eclectic tastes, Justin’s works traverse multiple musical aesthetics and genres, spanning from groovy, jazz-funk tunes to anxiety-inducing, synthetic soundscapes to sentimental orchestral themes. He draws inspiration from timeless Japanese composers such as Yoko Shimomura, Joe Hisaishi, Yasunori Nishiki, and Shoji Meguro.

He humbly began his ventures into writing music by transcribing and arranging his favorite tunes from video games like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Fire Emblem. Justin would go on to compose for media, working on the soundtracks of Free Will (BAFTA Student Awards Winner, Tokyo Indie Games Summit), Cards of Heart (Honorable Mention at IGF), (val)iant (Games for Change Awards winner, IndieCade nominee), and more.

Justin is currently pursuing his Master of Music in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games at the Berklee College of Music. In his free time, Justin plays JRPGs, tries on too many bucket hats, noodles on the bass, and explores new cafes.
